The Healing Journey is a Treadmill (And I’m Tired of Running)

I’ve spent a lot of time in that “continuous battle” space. You know the one. Where you’re so focused on “putting yourself first” and “setting boundaries” that the boundary-setting itself becomes the main event of your life. It starts as a way to get your life back, but then you realize you’ve just traded one set of shackles for a very polished, therapeutic set of rules.

That “moving finish line” is the real killer. We’re told that if we just do one more modality, one more breathwork session, one more deep dive into our ancestral trauma, we’ll finally reach the “healed” version of ourselves. But the goalposts just keep shifting. We’ve turned “becoming a person” into a full-time job with a very demanding boss.

“It’s the fatigue of living in a constant state of treatment, where the finish line keeps moving farther away. Somewhere along the way, your view of hope shifts… It gets worn down.”

Compassionate Voices

It’s like we’ve bought into a growth mindset that’s actually just a cage. We’re so focused on the “work” that we’ve forgotten how to just… be.

The irony is that we’re often so busy “processing” our lives that we forget to actually inhabit them. We’re treating ourselves like broken toasters that need a specialized technician, rather than just… people. Maybe the real healing isn’t in finding the right tool, but in finally admitting that the treadmill is a scam and just stepping off.

If you’re feeling the fatigue, maybe it’s time to stop the repair manual approach and start acknowledging the cage. The most healing thing you can do is often the simplest: stop trying to fix what isn’t actually broken, just messy.
